DeNovix SS PlatinumThe Seal of Quality program recognizes life science products that have consistently received the highest review ratings in categories such as ease of use, service and value. Scientists can see at a glance, the products that deliver the greatest value and innovation to other researchers around the world. DeNovix was awarded the Platinum Seal after receiving over 200 scientist reviews scoring an average of 4.9 / 5.0 stars.

The DS-11 FX+ is a combination microvolume (1 µL) spectrophotometer, cuvette spectrophotometer and four-channel fluorometer that enables researchers to complete a range of UV-Vis and fluorescence applications. DS-11 users can rapidly and accurately quantify nucleic acids and proteins and perform robust sample quality control.

“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate DeNovix for their brilliant achievement — being recognized for an exceptionally high-quality product by the people who matter, their customers,” said SelectScience Editor-in-Chief, Kerry Parker.

”Being the first instrumentation company to receive the Platinum Seal of Quality is a tremendous honor,” stated Fred Kielhorn, CEO of DeNovix. “We value all feedback both from researchers sharing how the DS-11 Series has helped progress their work and those with suggestions on how to improve. Independent reviews are an important buying tool and represent an excellent way for scientists to gain confidence from hundreds of experienced users before purchasing.”

The DS-11 FX+ is a stand-alone instrument with DeNovix’ custom Android™ operating software, Wi-Fi / Ethernet network connectivity and a glove-compatible HD touch screen. Each new instrument is maintenance-free, never needs recalibration and backed by an industry-leading three-year factory warranty.

The primary applications for the instrument are UV-Vis measurements for nucleic acid and protein quantification, kinetic studies and microbial cell quantification. The intuitive interface helps users quickly create custom methods that may be defined and saved in password-protected accounts. Results are automatically stored and easily exported to e-mail, USB, network folders, network printers, LIMS, USB drives and label printers. IQ/OQ documentation and performance verification software is available to help achieve compliance in GLP/GMP environments.

Immunization with beneficial bacteria can have long-lasting anti-inflammatory effects on the brain, making it more resilient to the physical and behavioral effects of stress, according to new research by University of Colorado Boulder (CU) scientists.

The findings, if replicated in clinical trials could ultimately lead to new probiotic-based immunizations to protect against posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and anxiety or new treatments for depression, the authors say.

Researchers have developed a new platform to characterize and optimize sequences to make glycoproteins. The new technique, dubbed GlycoSCORES, uses mass spectrometry and cell-free protein synthesis. The result is much faster research into protein therapies that may defend against antibiotic-resistant supergerms. It would also accelerate research into other new drugs.

Apoptosis, the natural death of cells, and cancer drugs can induce double strand breaks (DSBs) that lead to DNA damage. Current methods of identifying apoptosis involve microscopy and have restricted quantitative capabilities because of inadequate ratios between signals and noise. However, scientists at the National Cancer Institute's branches in Bethesda and Frederick, Maryland, have developed a process that uses immunofluorescence microscopy to analyze fixed tumor biopsy tissues. It can distinguish between DSBs that are induced by apoptosis and therapeutic treatments.

Researchers at the University of Zurich have developed a unique way to determine the crystal makeup of organic salts faster. Since salts make up about 40 percent of the active ingredients in medications, this new process can significantly accelerate the development of new pharmaceuticals. The new crystallographic method also decreases the effort that scientists put into that process which reduces development costs.
